What’s going on, SixPackAbs.com!?! I’m Back!
Henry Tran here and I know I’ve been MIA for awhile, but if you didn’t know, I was in the hospital…But, no worries, guys, I’m back and looking to recover to be better than ever.
So here’s what happened and why I’ve been out of the gym for four months now. My gallbladder got infected and I actually had to have surgery to get it removed. Then, three weeks after my gallbladder surgery, I had a stomach infection. Fortunately, I didn’t have to have surgery for the stomach infection, but I did have to fight that off with antibiotics – and that kept me out of the gym for an additional two months. Some crazy back-to-back medical occurrences, right?
The good news is that I am now cleared by my doctors to workout and I have a clean bill of health.
So, I want you guys to follow along with me on my recovery process to getting back to 110%, because I know there are guys out there watching that have gone through similar situations like me and are chomping at the bit to get back to normal and become even better than before.
So, here are my 5 Post-Surgery Tips On How To Get To Six Pack Abs:
#1) Get the thumbs up from the doctor
Always make sure you are cleared to start doing anything – whether it’s training or nutrition – with your doctor first
#2) Prior Planning Prevents Piss-Poor Performance
You got the chance to take some time to actually put a game plan together on what you want to do – whether it’s the goals inside or outside the gym
For me, I wanted to come back better than ever when I was done with my surgeries and recovery, so I wanted to put the best plan together to get myself back to 100% and then to the next level. That all starts with getting your mind right.
I had a lot of free time, so I listened to “Relentless: From Good to Great to Unstoppable” by Tim Grover on Audible.
You’ve heard of Kobe, DWade, & LeBron, right? Well, Tim is the mastermind behind their training and goes over key indicators of elite athletes and competitors.
There are just 3 simple words that have to do with identifying yourself as an elite: “I OWN THIS.”
When you’re at this level, you’re known as being a “cleaner.” The most intense and driven competitor imaginable.
A few of Tim’s “Relentless 13” traits that define a cleaner include:
-Pushing yourself harder when everyone else has had enough.
-Not being intimidated by pressure, you thrive on it.
-Making decisions, not suggestions; knowing the answer while
everyone is still asking questions.
-Not recognizing failure; there’s more than one way to get what you
-Not celebrating achievements because you always want more.
I listened to and absorbed all of what Tim had to say, so now that’s the blueprint for my comeback.

So, make sure to take some time out of the day, like 10-15 minutes, and write down what your goals are for the next 10 weeks. When you have that down, look into goals for the year and beyond.
#3) Do NOT do what you were doing before
I was in a bed for a couple months – there’s no way I’m going to hop right back in the gym and be able to do the exercises I was doing.
#4) Mobility, Mobility, Mobility
I had been in the same position for hours at a time while in the hospital. Hell, you guys at home who sit at a desk all day are in the same boat. So, get started doing more mobility work -I’m talking:
-Light resistance band warm-ups
-Static and dynamic stretching
-Even walking around for 10-15 minutes at a time
#5) Hit Reset On Your Nutrition
Once you’re cleared to start eating normally again – that’s if you were/are on any dietary restrictions – take that as an opportunity to reset your nutrition, by:
-Eating more cruciferous, leafy greens than you were before
-Counting your macros and being aware of proteins, fats, and carbs in
the food you’re eating
-Try out meal prepping
-Follow along with Thomas Delauer’s videos on this channel
