Thomas Delauer here today breaking down another science-based aspect of fasting. Today, we’re focusing on your liver’s natural ability to detox and how fasting relates to the liver.

Let’s get to the science:
0:33 – Toxin Build Up – the liver acts as a filter to remove toxins, aids in the digestion of water-soluble vitamins and minerals, and plays a part in regulating glucose and blood pressure.
Now, when the liver gets bogged down, the backup plan is to have toxins stored in fat cells. And, during any kind of caloric surplus and fat accumulation, the liver becomes clogged with excess fat, metabolism becomes even more strained, and your waistline expands, which can result in far more serious health problems.
1:50 – Bogged Down At The Liver Level & Fat Cell Level – the liver will begin to store carbohydrates and other calories from this surplus and then becomes what’s known as a “fatty liver.”
The fattier your liver is, the more prone to toxin build up you become.
2:39 – How Fasting Changes The Genetics Of Cells In The Liver – fasting induces stress in a GOOD way.

3:16 – Growth Arrest DNA Damage-inducible – stops the growth of certain parts of the liver; elevated through fasting, making the liver repair better and blocks the absorption of fatty acids into the liver.
Fasting can reverse a fatty liver not just through the reduction of calories, but through the effect of hunger signals to the liver that is changing its genetic makeup.
