The trick that finally stopped my late-night snacking is sugar-free gum. I set an alarm to stop eating an hour before bed, and when it goes off I start chewing gum. After half an hour of chewing my jaw is too tired to want food, and my whole mouth tastes like mint.
My weak spot: salty snacks late at night
My biggest diet problem has always been salty snacks late at night, especially after a couple of drinks. That’s when the willpower goes.
So I told my AI nutritionist about it in detail: what I eat, when, and why. It gave me strategies built for that exact problem, and a few of them helped me more than anything a human nutritionist ever told me.
The alarm alone didn’t work
I’d tried a stop-eating time before. It didn’t stick. An alarm tells you to stop, but it does nothing about the craving that shows up twenty minutes later.
The gum is what made it work
AI suggested chewing sugar-free gum as soon as the alarm goes off. That’s what made the difference, for two reasons:
- Your jaw gets tired. After chewing for half an hour or 45 minutes, I don’t even feel like eating.
- Your mouth tastes like mint. Doritos on top of that minty flavor would taste kind of gross.
How to set it up
- Keep the snacks out of the house. That was the first thing AI told me. Make them something you only eat outside the house, on special occasions.
- Set a stop-eating alarm about an hour before bed. Mine goes off at 11 p.m.
- Start chewing sugar-free gum the moment it goes off, and keep going for 30 to 45 minutes.
That’s why I chew gum every night, and why you should too if night is where your diet falls apart. If you also skip breakfast and fast until 2 p.m., the alarm is what closes your eating window at night.
Tell AI about your own weak spot
Your struggle is probably different from mine. That’s the point. Tell AI in detail about your problem foods, when they hit and what you’ve already tried, and it can build a plan around your exact problem instead of handing you a generic diet. I walk through how to do that in how I use AI to get real six pack abs.
