How to Do Kettlebell Deadlifts the Right Way at Home

Kettlebell deadlifts are a great exercise that you can do at home. But most of you are doing them wrong. Here’s how to do kettlebell deadlifts the right way, so you get the most out of them. Put the weight between your legs, keep your toes facing forward, keep your eyes on the ceiling, and squeeze your glutes at the top.

How to do a kettlebell deadlift

Alright, so there’s four things you need to do here, and I’ll go through them in order.

  1. Put the weight between your legs, not in front of you.
  2. Stand with your feet slightly wider than shoulder width apart, with your toes facing forward, not outward.
  3. Look at the ceiling, or the sky, as you deadlift. That makes sure your back doesn’t get rounded out, and a rounded back is what could lead to an injury.
  4. Squeeze your glutes at the top of the rep. You don’t need to thrust your hips out. Squeeze at the top for extra power in a way nobody can see.

Why looking up works

Now let me explain why looking up works. If I’m looking at the ground, I’m naturally in bad posture. If I’m looking at the sky, I can’t really round my back. That’s the reason you look up when you deadlift. I show it in the deadlift trick that saves your back.

The four mistakes

So here’s the four mistakes that most of you are making with your kettlebell deadlifts.

  • The weight out in front of you
  • Toes pointed out
  • A rounded back
  • A hip thrust at the top

If you’re doing any of these, you’re doing it wrong and you’re not getting the most out of the exercise. Fix all four of them and you’re doing kettlebell deadlifts the right way.

What you need

All you need for this is one kettlebell. That’s it. So get yourself a kettlebell and start kettlebell deadlifting at home.
