When you see a bodybuilder suck his stomach in, he is doing a stomach vacuum. It’s an ab exercise, and the whole point of it is to keep your stomach from bulging out.
Why bodybuilders need it
The type of people who do this ab exercise are typically bodybuilders. And for them it can actually help a lot, because guys who are on a lot of bodybuilding drugs get what’s called bubble gut. They have abs, but yet despite that, their stomach still bulges out.
So that’s why they’re doing these exercises. They’re doing vacuums so that way their abs don’t bulge out as much.
It works the same if you have belly fat
Now, this is just as effective for people who have belly fat as for people who have bubble gut caused by bodybuilding drugs. It pulls your stomach in no matter who you are. So if you’re not a bodybuilder, if you just have some belly fat, it’s still going to pull your stomach in.
It’s just that beginners typically don’t do it.
Now, the vacuum is not going to burn the fat off. That’s not what it does. What it does is make your waist look smaller while you lose the fat, and the way you lose the fat is by eating fewer calories.
How to do it
- Breathe all the way out.
- Suck your stomach in as hard as you can.
- Hold it for 20 to 30 seconds.
- Do that for 3 sets.

And if you still have belly fat, here is why I say stop doing ab exercises until you can see your abs.
