If you want to start working out, here’s what I want you to do. Start with 5 minutes every day, first thing in the morning. Then step it up to 10 minutes, then 15, every day. You can start small and build it up. That’s how the habit gets locked in.
Start with 5 minutes, then build to 15
- 5 minutes every morning, first thing.
- Step it up to 10 minutes, every day.
- Then 15 minutes, every day.
That’s it. That’s the whole plan. Small and every day beats big and once in a while, because you’ll actually do it. So don’t try to do everything at once. Start small and build it up.
If you want something to do on day one, here’s a real workout that takes 5 minutes or less: my 3-minute total body workout. Just press play and follow along. You don’t have to think about anything.
Why first thing in the morning
I still work out first thing in the morning, seven days a week, and you should too. The reason is simple. If you do it first thing, it’s done before the day gets in the way.
Breaks are fine, quitting isn’t
Starting early and never quitting for more than a few months at a time is what let me build the body that I have today. Now, that doesn’t mean you have to be perfect. Missing a week doesn’t ruin you. Even taking a few months off doesn’t ruin you. Quitting for good does. That’s the one thing that ruins you. So if you fall off, don’t beat yourself up about it. Just get back to your 5 minutes in the morning and build it back up again.
What it does for you
Once the habit is locked in, you’ll be shocked at how much better your life gets. Working out made me healthier, and it made me feel better. It made me more productive, and it made my dating life better. Working out has made my life better in so many ways, and I want that for you too.
